Morrissey's buddy making off with taxpayer dollars!
Inside Job -
Immediately after taking office in 1999, Morrissey hired a close
political friend to work for him in the Assessor's office. This "friend"
had NO real estate or appraisal experience. Never-the-less, he was made
Morrissey's Chief Deputy. Did we mention he also served as Morrissey's
election campaign manager?
This particular employee purchased an improved multi-family property in
the Dundee area of Omaha in September 1999. He reported the purchase
price for this property as seventeen thousand four hundred thirty
dollars ($17,430) (highly questionable at the very least). For the 3
year period 2000 through 2002, the valuation of this property was one
hundred forty five thousand three hundred dollars ($145,300).
Morrissey's "right hand man" appealed this valuation to the County Board
of Equalization. In denying the appeal, the valuation remained at one
hundred forty five thousand three hundred dollars ($145,300).
In 2003, this same employee took it upon himself to REDUCE the value of
his own property by approximately thirty thousand dollars ($30,000)!
Despite the reporting of this incident by the Omaha World Herald in
2003, Morrissey took no action and the valuation remained at the reduced
level until the year 2006. This resulted in 3 years of lost revenue to
Douglas County Taxpayers!
Question: Why did it take 3 years for Morrissey to act on this incident?
Answer: Quite simply because Morrissey favors his political associates
and friends!
Morrissey's assertion that he takes action when errors or inequities are
brought to his attention is simply NOT TRUE! When it comes to friendship
and political associates, he fails to act in the best interests of the
taxpayers of Douglas County! More frequently than not, his decisions
favor his loyal political partners! - Morrissey when confronted with the
above-mentioned employee's viewing of pornographic websites on the
county's computer, stated he was only looking at little boys in their
underwear. Morrissey did not fire this individual! Morrissey valued his
personal friendship more than making a "no-brainer" decision. Is
Morrissey the kind of person we want in leadership of an important
governmental office? Why shouldn't he be made to pay for his poor
judgment and incompetence?
Government must be PRO ACTIVE to meet the needs of all citizens! A
REACTIVE political rogue like Morrissey is not competent or qualified to
serve the needs of the citizens of Douglas County in a fair and
equitable manner. Unfortunately, he does not have the ability to
administer
in a bi-partisan community. The time has come to Remove Roger!
